About Faraar

Faraar, which means ‘escape’ in Urdu, is a visual arts and new media space for artists, photographers, and graphic designers to exhibit and collaborate.
Karachi is chock-a-block with art galleries. Skeptics have questioned the logic of setting up yet another gallery and people from the art world have declared that it will take at least 3 years for Faraar to be ‘successful’.
Mercifully, conventional wisdom evades us :)
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light … “ Charles Dickens
We all know the traditional definition of ‘success’. While it’s important for PeaceNiche projects to generate revenue and be self-sustaining, and Faraar is no exception, our goal is to provide a platform for the ‘crazy ones’. We’re not a traditional art gallery and we don’t serve cocktails and cheese on opening nights. To us, these words spell success:
“I can’t wax lyrical enough about how felicitous it was that my first exhibition in Pakistan, my first solo show, happened at Faraar. The space is beautiful, the people are warm, kind and unpretentious, the name of the gallery completely appropriate to my work. Reflecting on the opening, I don’t think it could have happened anywhere else”. Reem Khurshid (self-taught artist who divides her time between painting and creating customized apparel for fellow sneakerheads).
